FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions
What size battery do you need?
We recommend using a 12V 8Ah–10Ah rechargeable battery for optimal performance.
To ensure proper fit and compatibility, the battery should have:
- F2 terminals
- Maximum dimensions of 5.94" x 2.56" x 3.7" (L x W x H)
Choosing a battery within these specifications will ensure it fits properly inside your Blackbuck Products Deer Stand Power Bank and connects correctly. This size battery is the same as a standard battery for a 12v deer feeder.
My solar panel has been charging for days and the charge controller still says “Charging.” Is that normal?
Yes. When the charge controller still displays “Charging,” it is often in float mode. In float mode, the controller is not continuously charging the battery at full power—it is simply maintaining the battery and topping it off as needed.
The labeling on the charge controller can sometimes be confusing because it may display “Charging” both when actively charging and when maintaining in float mode.
What battery is best for the cold?
Cold weather can be challenging for batteries and may reduce performance.
A slightly larger capacity battery may provide additional runtime in colder temperatures, but for most users, a 12V 8Ah–10Ah rechargeable battery works well.
Important: Make sure the battery has:
- F2 terminals
- Maximum dimensions of 5.94" x 2.56" x 3.7" (L x W x H)
If you are leaving your stand for extended periods in below-freezing temperatures, it may be best to take the battery with you.
What size are the DC ports?
The 3 DC ports on the side of your power bank accept a:
5.5mm x 2.1mm DC male plug
These plugs can be purchased and added to most 12V accessories.
How long is the solar panel cable?
The cable from the solar panel is approximately 6 feet long.
You can easily:
- Cut it down to size
- Extend it with additional wire
- Customize it for your specific setup
Will the Blackbuck Power Bank run a heater?
The short answer is no.
Most all electric heaters require a substantial amount of power—far more than a small 12V battery can realistically supply. Additionally, the Blackbuck Products power bank is designed to handle a maximum combined load of 10 amps across all outputs. Exceeding that limit can cause the 10-amp inline fuse to blow and shut the system down.
In most cases, a propane heater or wood burning stove is the most practical and economical option.
